The Baltimore Ravens selected wide receiver Devin Duvernay in the third round of the 2020 draft. He has seen limited opportunities as a pass catcher over his first two seasons in the NFL, but took the league by storm as one of the best returners in the league last season, earning both Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors.
When speaking with the media following one of Baltimore’s mandatory minicamp sessions, Duvernay was asked about how his role as a returner could help him as a wideout. He talked about how it could allow the coaches to put more trust in him, which hopefully would allow him to earn more opportunities as a wide receiver.
“I think it will just continue to allow the coaches to gain trust in me, believe in me, see what I can do in other units, as a dynamic player with the ball in my hands. And hopefully, that just leads to more and more as a receiver.”
Duvernay showed the ability to create big plays and flip field position numerous times last year. As a returner in 2021, Duvernay led the league in yards per punt return with 13.8, totaling 360 yards on 26 runbacks. He also averaged 24.1 yards per kick return, running back 28 kickoffs for 676 yards.
He has also showed flashes as a wide receiver, accumulating 53 catches for 473 yards and two touchdowns in two seasons. He is a dynamic athlete, and that should continue to serve him well as he enters his third year in the NFL.
