Ravens QB Lamar Jackson reportedly waiting until after 2022 season to negotiate new contract

One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Baltimore Ravens during the 2022 offseason has been the potential extension for quarterback Lamar Jackson. Some believed that Jackson would have already had his second contract signed, sealed and delivered by this point, but there has still been nothing made official at the moment.

There have been all sorts of ideas as to why Jackson hasn’t signed an extension yet, but Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk provided some insight into the situation. Reportedly, Jackson is focused on football right now, and wants to wait until after the 2022 season to negotiate a new deal.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jackson has told the Ravens that he’s currently too focused on having his best possible year and that he doesn’t want to do a deal until the 2022 season is over.”

Waiting until after the 2022 season to do a deal makes sense for Jackson. His 2021 campaign ended on a sour note, and if he’s able to perform at an elite level next season while leading Baltimore deep into the playoffs, he could earn himself millions of dollars per season.

He also is known as an extremely hard worker both on and off of the field, and the fact that he’s representing himself without an agent might mean that he doesn’t have as much time as he’d like to focus on any contract negotiatons.
