Ravens QB coach James Urban shares thoughts on progression of QB Lamar Jackson in fifth NFL season

The Baltimore Ravens have seen quarterback Lamar Jackson grow into a star before their eyes. The team selected him with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, and have since committed to building around him, which has led to plenty of success in many different ways.

Jackson has improved in multiple areas over the course of his NFL career so far. When Baltimore quarterbacks coach James Urban was asked what he’s seen from a progression standpoint from Jackson in his fifth professional season, Urban mentioned things that he thought might not jump out to the “naked eye”.

“There are things last night that I saw [where] I continue to see [Lamar Jackson] grow with things that might not jump out to the naked eye. But as his coach, I love the fact that he’s carrying out fakes when we run the ball. He’s such a threat as a runner that when he continues to carry out his fakes and take great pride in that, all eyes on him, and we can hold two or three guys on the back end – even if just for a step. Those types of things are where I really see him growing.”

Jackson continues to ascend, which is great news for a Ravens team that needs him to produce at a high level week in and week out. He will look to keep getting better as he aims to lead Baltimore to a Super Bowl championship.
