Ravens’ Mike Macdonald discusses first OTAs as Baltimore’s DC

The Baltimore Ravens have been blessed with having one of the best defensive units in all of the NFL for many years of their franchise history. Great coaching can be considered as a reason for such a strong unit, as they’ve had many great defensive coordinators come in and provided a stamp on how the team plays defense.

Following organized team activities on Wednesday, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald spoke with the media. During the media session, Macdonald discussed his first OTAs as a defensive coordinator at the professional level.

“It’s a little bit different in ‘indy’ [individual drills]. I don’t have a group anymore, so I just find myself wandering around a little bit, trying to figure out which station to go [to] next. (laughter)But it is a little surreal being back in the building in a different role. It took me a little bit while to get used to, but it’s a fun process. Like you said, it’s working with the guys, so you get to work with the whole defense now rather than just one group, so that’s definitely been a positive.”

Macdonald was hired by the Ravens as defensive coordinator in January in the place of Don Martindale. He served in other roles with the team prior to leaving for Michigan, where he put together one of the best defenses in the country during the 2021 season. It’s expected that he will have a big impact leading the defense in Baltimore, where he reunites with some of the players that he coached during his first stint with the team.
