Ravens HC John Harbaugh explains lack of workload for RB J.K. Dobbins in Week 6 vs. Giants

The Baltimore Ravens lost their third game of the 2022 season in disappointing fashion to the New York Giants in Week 6 by the final score of 24-20. Baltimore blew another fourth quarter lead, while turning the ball over twice in crunch time and committing 10 penalties for 74 yards.

For how bad the Ravens’ loss was, the team’s running game looked good. However, it was on the legs of quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Kenyan Drake, not so much running back J.K. Dobbins, who only had seven carries for 15 yards and didn’t see much action as the game went on. When head coach John Harbaugh was asked about Dobbins, he said his knee tightened up, which prompted him to not be able to go later in the contest.

“Yes, his knee tightened up. It just didn’t respond probably to the turf maybe. I don’t know, but it tightened up and he couldn’t go.”

Dobbins is arguably Baltimore’s most talented back based off of skill alone, but hasn’t seen as much of a workload as he would apparently like so far. He made it a point to share that he hasn’t received more than 15 carries in a game during his NFL career, and while he is extremely competitive and cares about winning as well as the success of the team, he clearly wants the ball in his hands in order to display his talent.

The Ravens have taken a cautious approach with their stars coming back from injury, so it’s no surprise that Dobbins didn’t play once his knee tightened up. Drake played well in the third-year runner’s place, but hopefully Dobbins can return to the fold next week against the Cleveland Browns in Week 7.
