The Baltimore Ravens will likely be on the lookout for a wide receiver during the 2023 NFL draft. Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta and head coach John Harbaugh made it a point to talk about the position during their end of season press conferences, hinting at a potential revamp of the room.
During his media availability at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, DeCosta was asked about his thoughts on the 2023 wide receiver class. He mentioned how there could be five or six players who could be potential first-round picks, also saying that the class is strong throughout the middle rounds as well.
“I think it’s a good class. I think there are probably five or six guys that you look at as potential first-round-type guys, and then [it’s] pretty strong through the second, third and fourth round, as well. Now, what we’ve seen [and] what we saw last year … The dynamic is, these guys typically go higher than you might have them rated, because of the importance of the position. We’ve seen that with the pay scale at that position, as well. I think the league recognizes the importance of that position. That being the case, I think it’s a strong, good class. Hopefully, we’re in position to get a guy that we like at some point. Whether that’s [in the] first round or the third round, if we trade [for] or get a second-round pick – whatever it might be – we’re in position to get a guy that can come in and help us win football games.”
Players such as TCU’s Quentin Johnston, Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, USC’s Jordan Addison and Boston College’s Zay Flowers seem to be the players most mention consistently in the first round, with a few others sneaking into the conversation as well. Depending on what happens in 2023 free agency, Baltimore could very well add one of those names to the mix come draft weekend.
