The Baltimore Ravens selected defensive lineman Travis Jones in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Many were left wondering how the former Connecticut star fell so far on draft weekend, as many thought he was at least a second-round prospect, with some even having him as a late-first round target.
Jones has impressed in a big way so far during training camp and the preseason for Baltimore. After training camp practice on Monday, veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell was asked about Jones. Campbell showered praise on the rookie, saying that he has all of the tools to be a great player at the NFL level.

“He’s a stud. He has all the tools to be a special player in this league. His mindset is that of a guy who’s hungry and wants to be great. I think it’s a great environment for him to flourish and develop. This organization is special. The coaching staff that we have I feel like really fit the ability to be able to bring the best out of him. He has good vets in the room with Michael Pierce and Brent Urban. I feel like we really are … It’s a great place to develop, especially for young D-linemen, but he has all the tools in place, and he’s flashing at camp. You can tell he is going to be a special guy”
The Ravens’ defensive line unit is one of the deepest and most balanced parts of their 2022 roster. Jones was known for his pass rushing prowess in college, putting together 8.5 sacks in three years on the interior. Baltimore’s defensive line has struggled to generate consistent interior pass rush in recent years, so hopefully Jones can translate his skills over to the NFL to chase down opposing quarterbacks effectively.
