The Baltimore Ravens are tied for fifth in the NFL in sacks through 12 weeks of the 2022 season, racking up 35 so far. Much of that production has come from outside linebacker Justin Houston with nine, but the team would like to see more production from second-year outside linebacker Odafe Oweh in that department.
Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was asked about what he’s seen from Oweh so far in 2022. Macdonald said Oweh’s production stat wise hasn’t been exactly where they’d like, but he’s doing the things that the team asks of him alongside setting a good edge in the process.
“His production – stat wise – isn’t exactly where you want it, but he’s doing the things that we’re asking him to do. Right now, we’re happy with where he’s at. Snap counts, I wouldn’t take too much out of it. I think it’s more of a, ‘Kudos to ‘J.P.P.’ [Jason Pierre-Paul]’ and how well he’s playing the run on early downs, but when ‘Dafe’ [Odafe Oweh] has been in there, he’s setting a good edge right now, and when we’re calling his number to rush, you can feel his fast ball out there. The rushes haven’t really gone his way at the end of the day, so we’re pleased with where he’s at though.”
Oweh has totaled just one sack throughout the first 12 weeks of the 2022 season, leaving much to be desired after plenty of high expectations were placed on his shoulders coming off of a promising rookie season. His production goes beyond the box score, but many would like to see his sack numbers skyrocket in the coming weeks.
