The Baltimore Ravens can blame a handful of miscues for their loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. Two of the most glaring mistakes were made by tight end Mark Andrews, which included a critical lost fumble and a drop of the game-tying two point conversion. But his coach had nothing but positive things to say about 29-year-old veteran after the game.
Ravens Coach Shows Support To Mark Andrews After Mistakes
Both of Andrews’ gaffes came at crucial points in the game. With the Ravens trailing 24-19 early in the 4th quarter, Lamar Jackson was leading his team down the field for a potential lead-changing touchdown. On 2nd and 11 from their own 40-yard line, Jackson zipped a pass that was caught by Andrews, who cut across the middle of the field to pick up some yards after the catch.
But he was met by Terrel Bernard, who batted the ball out of Andrews’ hands. Bernard quickly jumped on the ball, giving the Bills the possession and an eventual three points on a Tyler Bass field goal.
Baltimore would fight back, though. An 88-yard touchdown drive that started with 3:29 on the clock shortened Buffalo’s lead to 27-25, and the Ravens lined up to tie the game with a two point conversion try. Jackson took the snap and the offense flooded out to the left, and Mark Andrews broke free as he straddled the goal line. The pass came his way, but the ball slipped out of his hands as he fell backward into the end zone. The drop proved to be the difference in the game, as Baltimore was unable to come up with the ensuing onside kick.

After the game, Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh was asked about how he’ll approach Andrews in the locker room:
“There’s nobody who has more heart and cares more and fights more than Mark. We wouldn’t be here without Mark Andrews…Mark will handle it fantastic like he always does because he’s a high character person…I’m proud of him just like I’m proud of all of the guys.”
The loss for Baltimore drops their playoff record to 3-6 in the Lamar Jackson era. Their postseason performances have been a let-down while they’ve remained as one of the top teams in the league, and will have to deal with falling short of expectations for yet another year.
Mark Andrews scored 11 touchdowns during the regular season, which was a career high. But his 673 receiving yards was his lowest total in any healthy season since his rookie year in 2018.
