There is a Friday news dump, and then there is Day-1-of-the-NFL-draft news dump.
That is precisely where the news of Lamar Jackson’s extension fell as the Baltimore Ravens announced they agreed in principle to sign the former 2019 NFL MVP to a five-year contract extension.
There was much consternation throughout the offseason as the Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson. Theoretically any team could have negotiated with Jackson, too. The catch is they would have to give up two first-round picks to acquire Jackson’s playing rights in addition to the new contract.
Twitter was relieved with Jackson agreeing in principle with the Ravens. Here are some of the best takes.

Lamar Jackson signing a deal to give his family generational wealth, five years after he sat in the green room with his mom, watching the picks go by as he fell in the draft….hard not to get emotional. What a player. What a story. pic.twitter.com/C7olaL9bwy

Lamar Jackson held the Baltimore Ravens accountable before signing his future to the organization. As fans, we'll see a better quality of football as a result.
That's huge. The Baltimore Ravens are going to be winning a lot more football games. #RavensFlock

Lets the @Ravens strategy and then execution of their strategy be a teaching tape for weaker organizations out there #nfl #RavensFlock #Ravens #lamarjackson

Very interested to see how Lamar Jackson will do in this 'new look' Ravens offense.
But they need to do better than OBJ. Ravens WR group has been laughably bad for years— J🍩ey Bag 🍩f D🍩nuts 🍩 (@joeybagovdonuts) April 27, 2023
Lamar Jackson was available. QB needy teams decided to stay with Desmond Ridder, Sam Howell, and whatever the Colts are doing. Remember that when those teams are 4-13 this year…

Lamar Jackson just secured the bag!💰
He resigned with the Baltimore Ravens on a 5 year, $260 million deal ($52 million annually) making him the newest highest paid QB in the NFL.
QB is no longer a draft need for the Ravens, no need to speculate trading up. #NFL #RavensFlock
