In an ideal world the January transfer window is for other clubs. The ones that are desperate for reinforcements to fire them away from the relegation zone or to reinvigorate a failing push for Europe or appease a restless fanbase.
If your club’s doing well, you can just watch on from the sidelines in January as increasingly desperate teams shell out increasingly over-the-top fees on increasingly over-hyped players.
Heck, you may even be able to take advantage by moving on one of your out-of-favour players for an inflated price.

Invariably, Newcastle have found themselves in the ‘firing away from the relegation zone’ part of the equation, so this January has certainly been a little different.
Sitting third in the Premier League, it made attracting players just that little bit easier as the acquisition of Everton’s Anthony Gordon proved.
But in view of the Magpies’ financial pull, were you expecting just that little bit more?
We want to know your views on the window. Using our Eddie Howe transfer slider, give us your assessment of Newcastle’s January’s transfer dealings.
Rubbish? Excellent? Or somewhere in between?
You can then compare your views with the rest of the Magpies fanbase to see whether they are in agreement.
And we’ll do it all again in the summer, hopefully with a Champions League campaign to recruit for.
