Liverpool have put one foot in the Champions League final after beating Villarreal at Anfield in the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday night. The Reds recorded a 2-0 win to put themselves in a dominant position ahead of next week's return tie in Spain.
Jurgen Klopp's side were unable to break the deadlock in the first half, despite creating multiple chances, as Villarreal set up to frustrate. However, shortly after the break, Jordan Henderson's deflected cross squeezed past goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli - and Sadio Mane doubled Liverpool's advantage two minutes later.

Quadruple-chasing Liverpool are next in action on Saturday when they take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League. The Champions League semi-final second leg at Villarreal follows on Tuesday.
