Ratchanok and mixed pair sail into last 16 of Masters

Ratchanok Intanon and mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai advanced to the last 16 of the US$360,000 Malaysia Masters at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Ratchanok, who won her first title in two years on Sunday at the Malaysia Open, defeated Thai compatriot Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-12, 21-13 to progress to the last 16 round of the World Tour Super 500 event.

The Thai eighth seed will face Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia in the last 16 on Thursday.

Mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol and Sapsiree proved too strong for Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati of Indonesia as the top-seeded pair won the match 21-11, 21-16.

They will play Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek of the Netherlands in the last 16.

Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran also advanced to the last 16 after they beat Zachariah Josiahno Sumanti and Hediana Julimarbela of Indonesia 21-18, 21-16.

They will next meet Chen Tang Jie and Valeree Siow of Malaysia.

Women's doubles pairs Supissara Paewsampran/Puttita Supajirakul and Pichamon Phatcharaphisutsin/Nannapas Sukklao bowed out while men's singles hope Kunlavut Vitidsarn pulled out of his opener against Lu Guangzu of China.

In other women's singles results on Wednesday, top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japam defeated Michelle Li of Canada 21-15, 21-13, third seed An Se-Young of South Korea downed Iris Wang of the United States 21-14, 21-12, and seventh seed Pusarla V Sindhu of India scraped past He Bingjiao of China 21-13, 17-21, 21-15.
