Few eyebrows were raised when it news spread of Rasmus Hojlund being a target for United. His support for the Reds aside, the Atalanta striker is earning a positive reputation in Serie A.
Ten Hag has been on multiple video calls with the 20-year-old as he aims to persuade him to join Old Trafford. However, Hojlund alone will not automatically solve the striker issue.
While his goalscoring stats are good for a player of his age, there is a general consensus in Italy he still needs a couple more years of development at the top level to reach the potential many see in him. His current manager, Gian Piero Gasperini is of this opinion too.
"From the technical standpoint and in other areas, I have seen very few strikers that are as strong as him at 20-years-old," he told reporters. "He has considerable room for improvement, for instance in the air, inside the box, or in the making the final pass. Nowadays, once this type of player emerges, the top European clubs generally swoop in with offers that are hard to turn down for a team like Atalanta."
To help aide his development, an experienced goalscorer would also need to be signed. Harry Kane would be the dream scenario.
When a young player is making his way into the game, the last thing he needs is all the weight of expectation on his shoulders to help solve the lack of goals in this team. The addition of a reliable top flight striker will aide both Hojlund and United in the short term.
