Rasmus Hojlund ‘may struggle like Darwin Nunez’, says Rio Ferdinand as Manchester United medical completed

Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United fans not to expect the world from Rasmus Hojlund in his debut season at Old Trafford.

The Danish striker reportedly completed his medical on Thursday evening ahead of signing for the Red Devils in a £64million deal that could rise to £72m with add-ons.

United clearly see big potential in the 20-year-old despite him having only scored ten goals for Atalanta last season, following a spell at Sturm Graz in Austria.

Therefore, former defender Ferdinand wants Hojlund to be given time to adapt to the Premier League and likened his scenario to that of Darwin Nunez, who he expects to thrive in his second year in England after a relatively quiet start to life at Liverpool.

“Anyone who has seen him play will see there are attributes there that you would like - he's suited to the Premier League,” said Ferdinand.

“I look at it a bit like Darwin Nunez at Liverpool. Last season was his adjusting season. He's a young striker coming to the league, everything about him fits the Premier League perfectly but it didn't go as well as he would have liked.

“But I think this season we'll see a different player for Liverpool. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens with Hojlund.

“Although I'd like him to have a better season than that obviously. He may well do but it will take time to adjust.”

United are set to announce Hojlund’s arrival in the coming days with a potential debut against either Lens or Athletic Club in a double-header of friendlies this weekend not out of the question.
