Rasmus Hojlund issues defence of ‘world class’ Marcus Rashford after Manchester United criticism

Rasmus Hojlund is adamant that Marcus Rashford will return to top form for Manchester United sooner rather than later.

The under-fire attacker has scored only once this season but there have been signs of him forming a dangerous partnership with Hojlund, after they combined for the Dane’s first Old Trafford goal in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.

Hojlund, 20, is convinced that his teammate has what it takes and revealed he has looked up to Rashford since watching him break out at United.

“I really like playing with him,” Hojlund is quoted as telling Danish newspaper Tipsbladet.

“He is a world class player. I enjoy playing with him.

“He's a player I've looked up to, even though he's only a few years older than me. He has done well since he came in as a 19-year-old and scored against Midtjylland. I think he has been a great player ever since, and it is of course great that we are teammates today.”

Hojlund is on international duty with Denmark ahead of Euro 2024 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and San Marino.

In his media duties with the Danish press, he was asked to decide whether he or Rashford is the quicker player - and his straight-faced, matter-of-fact reply reportedly drew laugther from the assembled journalists.

“That’s me,” he simply replied.
