Rashford, Martinez, Sabitzer - Manchester United injury latest and expected return dates

Manchester United could be without five first-team players when they travel to Bournemouth this weekend.

Erik ten Hag had several absentees last week but United still brushed aside Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford. A poor away record - as well as a resurgent Liverpool side - has caused some to be concerned about the Red Devils’ Champions League bid.

United’s fate remains in their hands and beating Bournemouth would be a huge step to securing a top-four finish. On a positive note, Ten Hag confirmed Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane will be available for the trip.

The latter played 81 minutes against Wolves and came through unscathed, having missed the previous six Premier League games due to injury. Ahead of the latest clash, Manchester Evening News have profiled the full injury list - including potential return dates.

Marcus Rashford - illness

Rashford missed the Wolves win with a leg injury and Ten Hag confirmed he has made a full recovery at his press conference. However, the England star has been struck by a bout of illness and will be assessed before tomorrow.

“Rashy trained well the whole week but today he reported he is ill,’ the Dutchman told reporters. “We have to see how he recovers during the day and see tomorrow."

Lisandro Martinez - foot

The Argentine has dispelled his pre-season critics to emerge as one of United’s standout players.

A metatarsal fracture has seen the defender sidelined for the previous six top-flight fixtures and he is due to miss the rest of the season, including the FA Cup final.

Marcel Sabitzer - knee

Sabitzer is another who will not play again for United this season. Given the Austrian is only on loan from Bayern Munich, there are question marks about whether he dons the jersey again.

A club statement confirmed Sabitzer - who missed the Wolves win - will miss the rest of the campaign. It read: “Everyone at the club is disappointed to lose Marcel’s services as the Reds chase a strong finish to the season in the Premier League and FA Cup. We are grateful for his contribution to our progress so far.”

Tom Heaton - ankle

Understudy goalkeeper Heaton has not featured on United’s bench since rolling his ankle in March. The veteran expected to return in April but, as of yet, that still has not happened.

Ten Hag has not provided an update on when Heaton will make a comeback but he was pictured back in training so could be on the bench at Bournemouth.

Donny van de Beek - knee

The forgotten man will not play for the Red Devils again in 2022-23. There was hope Van de Beek could revive a stalled career under Ten Hag, who he played for at Ajax, but injuries have blighted his campaign.

A knee injury has ruled the midfielder out since January but he is expected back for pre-season.
