Rascal Rosco not feeling the blues after tree dye encounter in Killin forest

Playful pooch Rosco wasn’t left ‘feeling blue’ during a walk in woodland near Killin last week - despite having an encounter with some tree dye.

Owner Dani Bird was enjoying a stroll with the two-year-old German Wirehaired Pointer in the Acharn Forest Walk last Thursday when the dog disappeared into the trees.

She couldn’t believe her eyes when Rosco reappeared shortly afterwards - covered head-to-toe in a mystery blue substance.

Dani soon found out that the cause was a blue temporary tree dye which had been dumped on the floor nearby, with Rosco none the wiser about his sudden change in appearance.

Mum-of-two Dani, from Lochearnhead, told our sister paper, the Daily Record: “He’s been the talk of the village since it happened.

“Everywhere I’ve gone since, people have said ‘you’re the girl with the blue dog’. We were out for a walk when he disappeared into the banks and I didn’t really think much of it because he’s got such a high prey drive, he’s always sniffing about.

“I carried on walking and whistling for him when he appeared really quite far behind me. He leapt out onto the track and I thought I was seeing things. He was hurtling towards me with a big grin on his face and I was going ‘he’s blue...no... it must be some weird reflection’.

“But when he got closer, I realised he really was. Normally I would have panicked, worrying that it might make him ill but I think I was just in shock. I wasn’t angry - I was just dumbfounded by him.
“It was inside his ears, up his bum and his tongue was completely blue.

“It was all over his collar and lead too. I went back to where he’d popped out of and there was a van parked there with one of those big backpacks that they use when they spray pesticides.

“There was nobody in the van but there were loggers up on the hill. I took a photo of the stuff and the bottle that was there and checked to make sure that it wasn’t toxic.”

The incident prompted a warning to other local dog walkers in the area, with Dani’s post being shared by the local Killin community Facebook page.
