Rare Sir Alex Ferguson memorabilia to go up for auction - including celebratory champagne

Scots football fans will be able to get their hands on rare Sir Alex Ferguson memorabilia as part of a two-day auction taking place next week.

Graham Budd Auctions will have more than 350 items on sale to commemorate 30 years of the English Premier League’s existence.

Included in this will be a number of items relating to Sir Alex’s legendary time with Manchester United.

One highlight piece up for sale will be two bottles of champagne, which the Govan-born boss had drunk - alongside ‘guests’ - as part of celebrations for winning the inaugural Premier League title in the 1992-93 season.

Both of the bottles together are estimated to fetch something between the price of £400 and £600.

There will also be a number of other items signed by the Glasgow boss up for auction - including pictures of Manchester United’s Champions League triumph in 1999 and a match day programme of his final game in charge at Old Trafford in 2013.

Collectors seeking anything unrelated to Sir Alex will also be able get their hands on plenty of other pieces of memorabilia.

A signed print of ex-Rangers star Paul Gascoigne's world-famous 'dentist chair' celebration will also be up for auction.

One of the most expensive items available will be the shirt worn by former Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero, when he helped the Sky Blues secure the Premier League title in dramatic fashion in 2012.

The historic jersey, which is said to bear dry Champagne spray marks from the dressing room, is expected to take in a cash sum between £20k and £30k.

Graham Budd says that the seller’s commission on this item has been waived, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to an individual in need of urgent medical assistance and two charities that has supported them.

Adam Gascoigne, CEO of Graham Budd Auctions, said: “We are delighted to be offering this iconic shirt in our Premier League auction – it is one of the most important pieces in the history of the Premier League as Agüero was wearing it when he scored the title-clinching goal in 2012.

“Sergio Agüero is the fourth-highest scoring player in Premier League history, with 184 goals in 275 games; the league's highest-scoring overseas player with nine more goals than Thierry Henry and Manchester City’s all-time top goal scorer.

“He is a true legend, so it’s no surprise that the club are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the goal by erecting a statue to him outside Etihad Stadium.”

The live auction will take at 10am on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Details of the auction can be found here.
