A “RARE” red weather warning has been issued for parts of Scotland by the Met Office.
The warning, which covers a section of the east of Scotland, means that “exceptional rainfall” is expected to cause “severe flooding and disruption”.
It is due to come into force from 6pm on Thursday and will last until midday on Friday.
The warning means that "severe flooding and disruption is expected" and the Met Office has warned that some communities could be "completely cut off, perhaps for several days".
The forecaster said to expect the following:
- Danger to life from fast flowing or deep floodwater
- Extensive flooding to homes and businesses
- Collapsed or damaged buildings or structures
- Road closures and bus and train service delays and cancellations
- Dangerous driving conditions because of spray and flooded roads
- Loss of power and other essential services, such as gas, water and mobile phone service
- Communities completely cut off, perhaps for several days
Meanwhile, an amber weather warning for strong winds across eastern parts of Scotland has also been issued.
It will be in place from 10am-6pm on Thursday.
