Farming families from Co Tyrone and Co Fermanagh are set to feature in the latest episode of UTV series Rare Breed.
The second episode of the popular series is to air on Thursday night at 8.30pm, following its return to screens here last week.
Five families are to document life on their farms in Thursday night’s episode, including the Beatty family from near Aughnacloy.
A programme description for the show says it joins three generations of the family during lambing season.
“Near Aughnacloy in Tyrone we meet Paul Beatty who runs Tirelugan farm alongside his grandfather Cecil, and his dad Donald,” the description says.
“They keep cattle and a flock of Jacob sheep. It’s been a month of tricky weather.
“The fields are very wet but the milder than normal temperatures raise the risk of disease for the animals who have to stay indoors.
“As it’s lambing season, the Beattys are keeping a close eye on their ewes and newest arrivals.”
Also featuring on the show will be the Byers family from Ballinamallard, Co Fermanagh. Cattle farmers Dale and Vicki say their love first blossomed on the farm when they were teens.
“Dale is the third generation here while Vicki got into farming when she and Dale started dating when they were 15 years old,” the programme says.
“Now they have three children, 150 cows and milk three times a day, using a team of night milkers to lighten the load.”
Among the other families featured in the upcoming episode is a couple that split their farm between Dungannon and Portrush.
“Shay O’Neill and Susan Chestnutt met at a country show and seven years later they’re engaged and have joined forces to create Seaview Farm.
“It’s a logistical challenge as Susan’s farm is on the north coast of Antrim while Shay’s land is 50 miles away near Derrytresk.
“They comment that they couldn’t do it without the support of their families. When asked how strong their relationship is, they laugh and say, ‘nothing strengthens a relationship like trying to move pigs!’”
The latest episode of Rare Breed airs this Thursday at 8pm and it will also be available to watch on the ITV Player.
