A rare 50p coin that features the marmalade sandwich loving Paddington Bear has recently fetched £1,500. The 2019 coin was reportedly listed by a Scottish seller and is part of a popular collection.
The coin sold appears to show Paddington at the Tower of London. As reported by Glasgow Live it was auctioned on eBay from a Glasgow-based seller on Monday, February 13, with the 50p fetching £1,500.
This coin, while valuable, has a mintage of 9,001,000 meaning that there could be more in circulation. It was part of the 2019 series which also shows Paddington standing outside other famous locations.
Paddington at the Cathedral also had a mintage of 9,001,000 while Paddington outside Buckingham Palace and waving a Union Jack flag had a mintage of 5,901,000 and Paddington at the station had 5,001,000. The train station coin said to be the 14th rarest 50p.
According to the experts at Change Checker, the 2019 Paddington at the Tower of London 50p was issued by The Royal Mint to continue the celebrations of the British Bear. They also say that people may want to know the following about the 50p coin.
