A 50p coin has sold for £225 on eBay, a massive 450 times its face value. The rare coin was issued back in 2009 and depicts an athlete doing the high jump.
The design stemmed from a Blue Peter competition and the winning image was drawn by then nine-year-old viewer Florence Jackson. Florence's drawing was transferred onto the coins and released ahead of the 2012 Olympic games in London.
Around 20,000 of the coins were minted, and while they were never officially put into circulation, many did enter everyday transactions. They were originally sold for £1.09 but are now worth a lot more, some having been sold for as much as £286 on eBay in recent months, reports the Echo.

It has been reported that one lucky seller has just received £225.01 for theirs, after listing it on the online auction site. The coin attracted 17 different bids, with the sale price jumping considerably after starting at £9.99.
The coin which sold on June 19 was listed as a "rare uncirculated Blue Peter winner's edition 50p coin pack 2009". If you come across one of these coins, the first thing you should do is check the year on it. This is because a second edition of the coin was minted in 2011.
About 2.2million coins were made and released into circulation, meaning these will not be worth nearly as much.
