Raptors' Scottie Barnes Out Three Weeks With Orbital Fracture

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (15) and Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes, left, vie for control of the ball during first-half NBA basketball game action in Toronto, Monday, Oct. 28, 2024. (N

The Toronto Raptors announced on Wednesday that forward Scottie Barnes will be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks following a right orbital fracture. The injury occurred during Monday's game against the Denver Nuggets when Barnes was inadvertently struck by Nikola Jokic while vying for a rebound in the final quarter.

Barnes, who was named an All-Star for the first time last season, had been delivering an impressive performance this year, showcasing career-best statistics in scoring, 3-point shooting, rebounding, assists, and blocked shots. In the four games played so far, he has been averaging 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.0 assists. Despite his contributions, the Raptors have started the season with a 1-3 record.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, Barnes had recently inked a contract extension during the summer that could potentially amount to approximately $270 million if he fulfills the supermax criteria.
