A rapist who attacked a woman in east London has been jailed years after police used key DNA evidence to bring him to justice.
Daniel Jordan, 28, grabbed his victim and launched an horrific assault in which he strangled and raped her before running off.
The attack took place in an alley behind shops in Longbridge Road, Barking, in October 2022.
He was captured and charged within a week after detectives used DNA evidence to link him to the crime and to prove that he had committed previous offences
He was found guilty of rape, non-fatal strangulation and assault at Snaresbrook crown Court in January.
Jordan, from Dagenham, was jailed for 10 years at a sentencing hearing at the same court March 15. .
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, who leads DS Yexley’s team, said: “This was a vicious attack on a vulnerable person who found strength to provide evidence at trial, partly because of the actions of the investigating officer and the Sexual Offences Investigative Technician (SOIT) assigned to the case.
“The officers managed the investigation and trial with the victim’s needs at the heart of everything they did, and the impact that this had cannot be underestimated.”
The court had heard how the rapist had strangled his victim to the point where she had lost consciousness at one point after targeting her as she walked alone. He was arrested at his home just two days after the brutal attack.
The victim was helped by specialist officers following her ordeal and the following court case.
Jordan will be on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life.
