Leeds United were certainly busy when it came to transfers over the summer. The Whites brought in nine players to supplement their first-team and under-21s squads, while a host of players left the club, too.
Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha were the most high-profile departures, while the likes of Leif Davis, Kiko Casilla and Nohan Kenneh left for pastures new after finding opportunities hard to come by at Elland Road. Here’s how those players have started with their new clubs.
Ryan Edmondson – Carlisle United
Edmondson broke through into Leeds’ first-team ranks at the age of just 16 and there were high hopes for him moving forward in West Yorkshire. However, after a series of loan moves, he went on to make just two appearances for the Whites before he was allowed to join Carlisle United on a free transfer in June.

The striker has made five appearances for the Cumbrian outfit so far this season, with his only goal coming in a 3-2 loss to Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup. Edmondson has seven career league goals to his name and he’ll be keen to add to that tally in the coming months at Brunton Park.
Liam McCarron – Stoke City
McCarron joined Stoke for an undisclosed fee in June with Michael O’Neill giving him assurances that he would be given the opportunity to pick up first-team minutes at the Bet365 Stadium. However, before McCarron could play a minute for the Potters, O’Neill was replaced by Alex Neil and the 21-year-old left-back was allowed to join Port Vale on loan on deadline day.
The Scotland youth international will be aiming to catch the eye in League One and firmly establish himself in the senior game before he returns to Stoke next summer.
Laurens De Bock – Zulte Waregem
After spending two seasons on loan with Zulte Waregem, De Bock eventually penned a permanent deal with the Belgian side in May, joining on a year-long deal with the option of a further year. However, the left-back was on the move again just a few weeks later as he joined Greek top flight side Atromitos Athens on a free transfer.
De Bock has been an ever-present in the Greek Super League this season, making three appearances and helping the club up to fifth.
Nohan Kenneh - Hibernian
Kenneh joined Hibs on a three-year deal after struggling to find a way into the first-team at Elland Road. He had no problems working himself into contention at Easter Road, though, stepping straight into the starting line-up under Lee Johnson.
So far he has made eight appearances in all competitions, with four coming in the Scottish League Cup before the Premiership got underway. Leeds fans were used to seeing him play in the back line for the club’s under-21s, but he has featured in his preferred defensive midfield role for Hibernian.
Kalvin Phillips – Man City
After so many years in Leeds’ first-team, Phillips bid an emotional farewell to his hometown club over the summer to join Pep Guardiola’s champions in a deal thought to be worth around £45million. However, so far he has found game time hard to come by.
The midfielder has made one substitute appearance in the Premier League, stepping off the bench in the 89th minute against West Ham on the opening day, while he made his Champions League bow in midweek against Sevilla. He’ll be keen to kick on in the coming weeks, though, and attempt to force himself into the reckoning at the Etihad Stadium.
Elia Caprile - Bari
After impressing while on loan at Pro Patria last season, Serie B side Bari made a move to sign the goalkeeper in July. The 21-year-old has helped the club get off to an unbeaten start to life in the second tier, too, conceding seven goals in six appearances in all competitions.
Raphinha – Barcelona
The 25-year-old’s switch to the Nou Camp was one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer as he turned down Chelsea in order to realise his boyhood dream of playing for Barcelona. He was understandably a favourite at Leeds and it seems he is endearing himself with the Catalan club supporters already.
He has made four La Liga appearances so far, with his last start being marked with a goal in a 3-0 win over Sevilla. With Robert Lewandowski attacking through the middle for Barca, the Brazilian shouldn’t struggle to pick up assists this season and he’s already contributing in front of goal for Xavi’s side.
Leif Davis – Ipswich Town
Ipswich find themselves at the summit of League One at the minute and Davis, who joined the Tractorboys for a seven-figure fee, looks to have settled in well under Kieran McKenna. Davis has made the left wing-back spot his own, making six appearances during their unbeaten start to the campaign.
He has an assist to his name, setting up Connor Chaplin against Shrewsbury, and he’ll be attempting to firmly establish himself with Ipswich after struggling for opportunities at Elland Road.
Kiko Casilla – Getafe
Casilla is still waiting to make his debut for Getafe after bringing his challenging spell at Elland Road to an end over the summer. The former Spain international was frozen out at Thorp Arch and with no way into the first-team picture under Jesse Marsch, he made the move to La Liga on a free transfer in August.
David Soria has been the preferred option between the sticks at Getafe, but he has shipped 11 goals in four games so far and Casilla will be ready if called upon.
Kun Temenuzhkov – Navalcarnero
Temenuzhkov’s exit was quiet one as he was released from his contract and allowed to join Spanish fourth tier side Navalcarnero on a free transfer last month. The Bulgarian never made a senior league appearance for the Whites and he’ll be keen to get his career back on track in Spain.
He has made one appearance this season and he managed to score the only goal of the game against Villanovense.
