Raphael Varane's transfer message to Kylian Mbappe after PSG star opens up on future

Raphael Varane insists he doesn't need to give advice to Kylian Mbappe on his future as the Manchester United defender believes he has the maturity to decide for himself.

The Paris Saint-Germain star has been linked with a move away from Parc des Princes next summer with his contract set to expire in June 2022.

Real Madrid appears to be in pole position to sign the forward with two failed bids over the summer, believed to be in the region of £127million and £136m.

The 22-year-old has turned down multiple offers from PSG to extend his contract and is free to speak to any foreign club from January 1.

It remains to be seen where Mbappe will end up next season, but it's looking likely he will leave Paris.

But his international teammate Varane says it's not his place to tell him what to do next.

Speaking ahead of the Nations League semi-final showdown with Belgium, Varane said: "It is he who decides. He has the maturity to choose with his close circle.

"He has his head on his shoulders, he knows what he wants. It is not my role to advise him."

Mbappe opened up about the transfer saga in the previous window and said he asked to leave PSG so the club would have the funds to find a replacement.

He insists he is still happy playing for Mauricio Pochettino's men and refutes claims he has turned down several contract offers.

He told RMC Sport: “I asked to leave, because from the moment I did not want to extend [my contract], I wanted the club to have a transfer fee to find a quality replacement.

“It is a club that has given me a lot, I have always been happy, the four years I spent here, and I am still happy.

“I announced it early enough… I said ‘if you don’t want me to leave, I’ll stay’.

“People have said that I refused six or seven offers of extension, that I do not want to talk to [sporting director] Leonardo, this is absolutely not true” he added.

“They told me ‘Kylian now you talk with the president’.

“Personally, I did not appreciate the fact that they said I came [with the news he wanted to leave] the last week of August. I said at the end of July that I wanted to go.”
