Raphael Varane names quality trait Erik ten Hag has as Manchester United manager

Raphael Varane is finally starting to deliver the kind of performances that many Manchester United expected when he arrived at the club last year.

The defender arrived at Old Trafford with a huge pedigree after a decade at Real Madrid. After all, he had not only won four Champions League titles he was also a key part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup.

The 29-year-old is therefore well-placed to judge what separates good managers from the great ones, having played under the likes of serial winners such as Didier Deschamps, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane. Now he has suggested how his current boss Erik ten Hag can 1 in his eyes at least — join this select band of bosses.

He also spoke about how United are fiercely ambitious and want to start re-filling the trophy room at Old Trafford after a sparse haul of silverware over the past decade.

Speaking in an interview with TCL Global, Varane was asked what qualities great managers have.

He replied: "I think obviously the communication between them and the players is very important. Also the message they can give to the players, the confidence, the trust — all of this is very important.

"The (pre-season) tour that we had was very important in building the spirit of this team.

"We're ambitious. We want to win every game. We know the Premier League is such a difficult competition so we prepare every day to be ready. We will try to win every trophy possible."
