Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has admitted that he is 'happy' this season after enduring an 'irregular' campaign last term following his arrival from Real Madrid.
United signed the centre-back from Los Blancos on a four-year deal in August 2021, with Varane arriving for a fee of £34m, which could eventually rise to £42m with add-ons. The 28-year-old — who won three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies with Real during a 10-year stay — has made 35 appearances for United since signing for the club.
While Varane has missed 17 matches through injury and illness during his United career so far, he has featured in six of Erik ten Hag's side's matches so far this campaign, starting on five occasions. He has established a solid partnership with Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the backline, with the pair forming a much-improved defence alongside Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia.

The France international has since opened up about the club's difficult season last time out, insisting that the team have made a positive start to the new season.
"I’m very happy. I’m enjoying it a lot. Last season was irregular for me. This start to the season, we’re getting good results, taking pleasure in playing, in fighting together," Varane told reporters, relayed by RMC Sport.
"I also came to England to live emotions like that, and every game is a battle, a challenge. I like it. Being able to play regularly, having had a full pre-season, allows me to feel good on the pitch."
Varane is expected to feature for France in their upcoming matches against Austria and Denmark, but United boss Ten Hag will be hoping he returns to Manchester without an injury trouble.
