Raphael Varane delivers Manchester United top-four verdict after Southampton draw

Raphael Varane insists Manchester United will 'fight until the end' in order to secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season.

United dropped more points on Saturday afternoon when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Old Trafford.

The solitary point left United fifth in the Premier League table after 24 matches played, one place behind West Ham on goal difference.

Ralf Rangnick's side are now only a point ahead of Arsenal, who have two games in hand on them, and four points ahead of Tottenham, who have three matches to play before they have caught up as well.

It means United could fall out of the European places by the time their rivals have played all their matches, leaving any hopes of Champions League football in doubt.

Speaking after the Southampton draw, Varane delivered a defiant message when asked about those top-four ambitions: "We never give up and we have to fight until the end," he told BT Sport.

When quizzed on the match itself he added: "We are disappointed about the result, it is not enough for us. We have to keep pushing. In last three or four games we have played much better but the result is not enough for us. We have to fight and be focused on the next game.

"It is the second time the beginning of second half has not been good enough and we concede a goal. We had good opportunities in the first half."
