Rapes increasing as women are not wearing hijab: Zameer

In a controversial remark, former Minister and Congress leader B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan on Sunday said that the incidents of rape reported in India had increased as women were not wearing hijab. “Hijab has been there for several hundreds of years. The BJP is doing politics. If you see now, the cases of rape in India has increased because hijab is not being worn,” he told reporters in Hubballi on Sunday. He said that hijab can be worn by anyone. Mr. Zameer said that hijab is worn to protect women, and that it is to cover the beauty of the women as they grow up. Meanwhile, another Congress leader C.M. Ibrahim said that hijab can be part of uniform . “If dupatta on the shoulder can be part of the school uniform, hijab can also be part of uniform covering the head. It makes no difference.”
