Ranvir Singh shows her hair loss on Lorraine amid discussion on Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia

Journalist and TV presenter Ranvir Singh has opened up about the 'discomfort' of living with alopecia as she gave ITV viewers an insight into her own hair loss. Ranvir stepped in to host ITV's Lorraine on Friday in the absence of Lorraine Kelly and the topic of Jada Pinkett Smith’s battle with alopecia was discussed with Doctor Amir Khan.

Amid the segment of the show, she began to explain how her own battle with alopecia and how it all started after the loss of her father at a young age. The Good Morning Britain host had also spoken on the GMB earlier in the week about her battle with the condition following Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday night when Chris made a joke referring to Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

The 44-year-old chose to show Lorraine viewers how the condition had affected her hair line and spoke of the areas on her scalp where she has experienced hair loss. "We were at Thorpe Park on Mother’s Day and I feel dreadful about the photographs because your hair’s going backwards," Ranvir said.

She then pulled her hair back slightly from her face to reveal the side of her head. "But I have, can you see that there? she asked. The presenter continued: "I have always had a fringe, I have found ways to cover it. I use like coloured sprays and things. I have got a patch in the middle and I have patches at the back."

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant explained when she first started to notice her hair loss. "It started when my dad had a heart attack and when he died when I was eight or nine," Ranvir said: "And it's never come back. So I understand a little bit of the real discomfort that you live with having it. But you know what some people get a massive patches and they can't cover it up at all."

Ranvir returned to ITV on Friday, April 1 after being pulled off Good Morning Britain earlier in the week as she was suffering with hay fever which she later confirmed was an allergic reaction. She told her 108k Twitter followers On March 31: "Thanks for all the guidance on my streaming sore eyes this week! It was an allergic reaction to something more than tree pollen as the skin around my eyes has gone paper thin and sore :( Anyway I’ll be hosting @lorraine tomorrow and for all of next week - sorry for my face!"

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 9am.
