Ranvir Singh explains the 'discomfort' alopecia causes as she shows hair loss

Ranvir Singh has shared an insight into life with alopecia.

Today, she stepped in as host on the ITV talk show Lorraine. During a segment she spoke to Dr Amir Khan about the medical condition, which causes hair loss.

Ranvir spoke about her personal experiences after they began discussing Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars for making a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s battle with alopecia. Ranvir bravely opened up on how she experienced 'discomfort' from the condition and went on to show where she had lost patches of hair.

She said: "I can show you, under here..." she pulled her hair back a bit off her forehead to reveal thinned hair. The presenter continued: "Can you see that there? I have found ways to cover it. Like coloured sprays and things. I have a patch in the middle and I have a patch at the back."

The 44-year-old said the condition affects her daily life. She explained: "Even now, we were at Thorpe Park on Mother’s Day and I feel dreadful about the photographs because your hair’s going backwards."

Ranvir explained how the medical condition came about for her. She said: "It started when my dad had a heart attack and when he died when I was eight or nine, and it's never come back. So I understand a little bit of real discomfort if you live with having it. But you know what some people get a massive patch and they can't cover it up at all. "

The Dr spoke about his own struggles with it as he replied: "They do yes. And I'll be honest with you, in my teenage years, I used to suffer with alopecia. I had big patches around my beard and it was very distressing. But there's lots of different types of alopecia."

He explained that we often see it on people's heads and beards but it can also come from pulling your hair too tight. Other medical conditions can also bring it on.
