This was a list that was a difficult one to decide with the wealth of goalkeeper talent in the game right now. The list was led by women's football editor, Sarah Rendell, before other football experts at FourFourTwo were asked for their opinions.

Goalkeepers were judged on their skill, reflexes and previous awards and accolades.

There is also elements of presence on the pitch and how well they communicate with the rest of their teams which played a part in the order of the list.

Readers may disagree with the choices or the order but every player on the list is a world-class talent – so who has made the list? And who is the best player in the world? And do you agree? Let us know @FourFourTwo on social…

10 - Nicky Evrard

Nicky Evrard has always been an impressive goalkeeper but she announced herself on an international stage at Euro 2022. Belgium's Evrard had a thoroughly impressive tournament and it caught the eye of top clubs.

She joined Chelsea in the 2023 summer transfer window but was sent out on loan to Brighton. Injury prevented her from making a huge splash in the WSL. She joined PSV in 2024 and has got back to her best.

Evrard remains Belgium's number one keeper and rightly so. The 2025 Euros should be another tournament where she excels.

9 - Daphne van Domselaar

Daphne van Domselaar is another goalkeeper who had a breakout tournament during Euro 2022. The regular number one for the Netherlands, Sari van Veenendaal, sustained an injury and so Van Domselaar had to step up and what a job she did.

The save that comes to mind when her name is said is the one from the free kick against France. It was a thing of beauty and magic which displayed her incredible reflexes.

After the tournament she had a spell at Aston Villa but has really come into her own since joining Arsenal last year. She has managed to become the first choice keeper and make Manuela Zinsberger fight for starting spots. She is only going from strength-to-strength and at just 24-years-old she has a way to go before she is in her peak.

8 - Pauline Peyraud-Magnin

Pauline Peyraud-Magnin has had a varied career, having rarely stayed for more than a season or two at any one club. A former goalkeeper for Lyon, Marseille, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid, she found herself at Juventus at the start of the 2021/22 season where she has excelled and remained ever since.

Peyraud-Magnin kept the joint most clean sheets in the Champions League as part of a Juventus team that famously upset the odds to make it out of the group stage at Chelsea’s expense. Peyraud-Magnin’s exceptional performance away at Chelsea, helping her team to a 0-0 draw, was one of the main reasons why Juventus were able to progress.

Her steady presence between the sticks has brought more success to the Italian club and they are currently top of the Serie A table.

Peyraud-Magnin also started all of their matches at Euro 2022 as France reached their first ever semi-final at an international tournament.

7. Ann-Katrin Berger

Germany's Ann-Katrin Berger has fought to be a regular starter for her country once again, thanks to her work at former club Chelsea and now at Gotham.

She conceded the fewest goals in the WSL from a goalkeeper to have played more than 50% of available minutes, letting in only eight in 14 games, as Chelsea won their third consecutive WSL title in the 2022/23 season.

Berger was also in goal for Chelsea's other trophy triumphs over the past few seasons before leaving in 2024 for the NWSL. One of her best moments in a Chelsea shirt came in the 2022/23 campaign when she was the hero during a penalty shoot-out in the Women's Champions League quarter-final against Lyon. Her celebration when she saved Lindsey Horan's penalty is an iconic Blues moment.

She left Chelsea as she wanted more game time with Hannah Hampton becoming a more regular starting feature for the Blues. She has found that in America and will be hoping she can aid her nation to trophy success at this year's Euros.

6 - Merle Frohms

2022 was the year 27 year old Merle Frohms finally found herself on the biggest stage. Having previously played for Wolfsburg and Freiburg, Frohms helped Eintracht Frankfurt to Champions League qualification as they finished third in the Frauen-Bundesliga. No goalkeeper kept more clean sheets in the league than Frohms did with ten in her 22 games.

She also found herself as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper for Euro 2022. Frohms kept four clean-sheets on Germany’s run to the final, the joint most with England’s Mary Earps. Germany lost 2-1 to England at Wembley.

She has now retired from international duty, hanging up her boots in 2024. But she continues to display her skills and incredible reflexes for club Wolfsburg, who she joined in 2022. Frohms was a part of the German team who reached the 2023 Women's Champions League final but they lost out to Barcelona.

5 - Phallon Tullis-Joyce

When Mary Earps left Manchester United there was some panic amongst the fans as she had been a reliable and stylish keeper throughout her time at the club. But they should not have worried as Phallon Tullis-Joyce has seamlessly taken over the jersey.

Of course Earps brings a certain je ne sais quoi to the role but Tullis-Joyce has kept United in games and shone for the WSL club.

Her form has excelled so much that it has caught the attention of USWNT coach Emma Hayes, who has called her up to more than one international camp. The future is bright for the shot stopper.

4 - Alyssa Naeher

If this was a list for the best goalkeeper of all-time there is no doubt Alyssa Naeher would be higher in the rankings. The American has had an unbelievable career, winning two World Cups and an Olympic gold and bronze medal - and that's just a few of her achievements.

She not only won those incredible feats but she was central to the victories too. Her efforts in open play and at penalty shootouts were incredible for the US. Naeher retired from international duty in 2024.

She continues to play at club level for NWSL club Chicago Red Stars. The only thing missing from Naeher's trophy cabinet is a club trophy and she will look to add one in seasons to come.

3 - Hannah Hampton

Hannah Hampton's improvement has been astronomical over the past few seasons. Her move to Chelsea has aided her career so much and she battled to become the Blues' number one choice, which saw Ann-Katrin Berger leave the club.

She was in and amongst the England conversations before her move to the Blues but she is now in women's football discussions of if she can displace Mary Earps as the Lionesses number one choice.

On top of her form improving, she was also a big part of Chelsea winning their fifth-consecutive WSL title in the 2023/24 season.

2 - Cata Coll

Cata Coll is just 23-years-old but she had already won three Women's Champions League titles, four Liga F trophies and six cups with Barcelona. On top of that she has claimed the World Cup, the Nations League and will be gunning for the Euros title in 2025 with Spain.

She has been with Barcelona since 2019 and has slowly become their number one keeper. Her impressive performances for her club has seen the national team also depend on her between the sticks.

Coll's reflexes are impressive and her style of play is exciting for fans. She doesn't always have perfect performances but as she gains even more experience she will be unstoppable.

1. Mary Earps

It was not so long ago that Mary Earps could not even make it into the England squad. The 31-year-old, who is number 27 on FourFourTwo's best players right now list, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper started Sarina Wiegman’s first game as England manager and has not looked back. At the time, she might have benefited from an injury to Ellie Roebuck but there is no doubt that Earps deserved to hold onto her place.

At Euro 2022, she started all six games, conceding only two goals across the entire tournament, leading to her being named in the Euro 2022 Team of the Tournament. A year later at the World Cup she won the Golden Glove and her performances including saving a penalty in the final. England lost 1-0 to Spain but Earps was an impressive part of the Lionesses team nonetheless.

Earps moved from Manchester United to PSG in the 2024 summer transfer window. She has continued her good format the French club and despite Hannah Hampton vying for the England number one spot she has held onto the shirt.
