'Rangnick is the man!' - Manchester United fans go wild as Harry Maguire dropped vs Watford

A number of Manchester United supporters have praised interim manager Ralf Rangnick for dropping club captain Harry Maguire for this afternoon's clash with Watford at Old Trafford.

The England defender, who scored United's opening goal in last Sunday's 4-2 win over Leeds United at Elland Road, has been named amongst the substitutes, with Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof preferred at centre-back.

Maguire has struggled for form for much of this season and the supporters have grown restless with his performances, calling for both former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rangnick to drop him throughout the campaign.

Despite recently backing Maguire to retain the captain's armband, amid ongoing speculation about a 'power struggle' within the dressing room for the captaincy, Rangnick has made the decision to axe the former Leicester City man from his starting line-up this afternoon.

A lot of United supporters were critical of the defender for the role he played in Atletico Madrid's goal in Wednesday evening's 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the Champions League. Maguire was deemed to have reacted far too slow to Joao Felix's run across the front of him to meet Renan Lodi's outstanding cross.

With Rangnick having made the decision to drop him to the bench this afternoon, United's supporters have been reacting to the news on social media, many of whom are delighted with the move.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they have had to say.

As you can see from the messages displayed in the tweets above, United's supporters are impressed by Rangnick's decision to leave Maguire out of the starting line-up this afternoon.

Rangnick has previously shown that he is not afraid to make difficult decisions and leave big-name stars out if they are not performing to the level expected of them.

However, the German has admitted that he has made the decision to drop Maguire, as well as Luke Shaw, to inject some fresh energy into the team.

"We came back late in the middle of the night after the Champions League game," he said. "It is about fresh legs, energy and the tactical demands against this Watford team."
