Rangers won't be happy until Ibrox League is created but at least John Beaton will be spared a letter - Hotline

Rangers wrote to the SFA to complain over eight decisions made by Kevin Clancy during a fiery Pittodrie draw.

But, according to the Hotline, top of the list blunders from the man in black should have been his failure to award Aberdeen a penalty in an incident that should also have seen Allan McGregor sent off.

Ibrox chiefs fired off a letter to Hampden’s sixth floor but Dons boss Stephen Glass said they were the ones who suffered from the biggest error of the night when McGregor wiped out Ryan Hedges.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men got back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup - in a game where they were awarded two spot kicks.

John Beaton was the man in the middle with one converted and the other missed and Thomas McGlynn emailed: “Well, I don’t think John Beaton needs to worry about getting a letter sent in about his performance.

“Are Rangers for real? Everybody could see Kevin Clancy had a nightmare and out of the points Rangers made in their letter the one at the top should have been the Allan McGregor incident.”

John Jacob said: “No surprise to see Rangers shouting about wanting the Celtic game postponed and moaning about the referee at the Aberdeen game.

“I didn’t hear them moaning about John Beaton giving them two penalties against Stirling Albion.”

Paul Price, Belfast, said: “When you think this Rangers board couldn’t embarrass their club anymore they’re at it again.

“Everyone else is to blame if decisions don’t go their way. Either dry your eyes and move on, or simply set up your own Ibrox league where you can win every game and you have no one to blame.”

Alan McPherson, Moray, said: “I almost choked on my haggis when I heard that that greatly hard done by team down Ibrox way had written to the SFA complaining about the refereeing decisions at Pittodrie.

“I take it that didn’t include the non award of a blatant penalty with the possibility of a red card for Allan McGregor?”

Joe Sneddon, Lanark, said: “It was a penalty for Aberdeen. If there was a game that was crying out for VAR then that was it.

“Look, we all know Scott Brown likes to play on the edge. If Scott Arfield had been on the park Scott Brown wouldn’t have had the freedom or the energy to do Kevin Clancy up like a kipper.

“And maybe if Clancy has a look at the game back he will admit it wasn’t his finest display.”

Stuart McLeod said: “I’m delighted Rangers have called out Kevin Clancy. This guy has previous where Rangers are concerned and shouldn’t be anywhere near officiating our games.

“If it’s okay for the Celtic chairman to call out what he deems poor referring and also the governance of the game and our country it should be no surprise when Rangers respond and call it out.

“Hopefully we get a similar response and see an opposing player sent off and a penalty awarded as Kyogo did against Livingston.”

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown was in the thick of the action against his old rivals and Jake Curley emailed: “I thought Scott Brown’s invisible protective cloak would have remained at Parkhead.

“I named him the Licensee because he gets away with it time after time.

“But still he gets away with it. He was two feet away from the referee the other night when Ryan Kent got sent off - will the compliance officer look at his behaviour? No, he will get away with it. Anyone who reacts to him will suffer because he has to get away it.”

A win was never in doubt against the Binos for Gers but, tongue in cheek, John Bruce emailed: “My neighbour lent me his Celtic tinted glasses to watch the Rangers game on Friday night - and what a difference.

“Rangers were sensational all over the pitch with wave after wave of attacks on their goal. Debutant Alex Lowry looks like the new Lionel Messi and is now worth £50 million.

“Taking the glasses off showed a different game. Stirling Albion were a plucky side who didn’t lie down.

“Fashion Sakala had a slow first half but he and Cedric Itten impressed in the second half.

“Fringe players like Brandon Barker and Jack Simpson showed why they are on the fringes - and are like to be moved on.

“Alex Lowry had a great debut and he is certainly one to watch. Job done and we move on to the next round.”

It will be tougher test against Celtic next month but the Hoops will be without their talisman and David Bryce, Troon, said: “If Kyogo is out for the season then I blame Ange Postecoglou.

“It is shocking that he risked him against St Johnstone. Kyogo is injury prone and should have had his feet up after the Hibs game. Rangers will be rubbing their hands because no one can tell me that Giorgos Giakoumakis is in the same class as Kyogo.”
