Rangers vs Celtic Viaplay Cup Final officials announced as John Beaton lands VAR role

Nick Walsh will be the man in the middle for the Viaplay Cup Final clash between Rangers and Celtic.

The Old Firm duo go head to head at Hampden with the first piece of silverware up for grabs this season. The Light Blues defeated Aberdeen at the semi-final stage after extra-time to book their national stadium return while the Hoops secured safe passage by eliminating Kilmarnock as Ange Postecoglou bids to retain the trophy he won for the first time last season.

Frank Connor and David Roome will run the lines in Mount Florida while Kevin Clancy takes on fourth official duties. John Beaton will be in charge of VAR with Graeme Stewart assisting the whistler. The showpiece will also hand Michael Beale his first shot at tasting domestic cup glory with Rangers as he puts his unbeaten record on the line.

The former No2 to Steven Gerrard returned north of the border from QPR to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and has made an excellent start to life in Govan. But despite the fine form and results, they've been unable to make a dent in the Hoops' nine point lead at the top of the Premiership table as they continue their relentless charge to securing back to back titles.

Both clubs are also still in the Scottish Cup after weekend wins and have now discovered their quarter-final fate as they bid to book another day out at Hampden.

Rangers and Partick Thistle played out a five-goal thriller at Ibrox with big talking points in the game including the free goal given to the Jags by Beale after Malik Tillman's flashpoint while Ian McCall was also given the boot at Firhill in the wake of the clash.

Postecoglou and Celtic defeated St Mirren in an all-Premiership tie at Parkhead. They ran out 5-1 winners and will now travel to the capital to face Hearts at Tynecastle in a bid to reach the semi-final. The Light Blues - holders of the famous old trophy - will come up against second tier opposition in the shape of Raith Rovers.
