Rangers vs Celtic in Australia OFF as Gers pull out of Sydney Super Cup

The Old Firm derby in Australia is OFF after Rangers pulled out of the Sydney Super Cup.

The Ibrox club have accused organisers of moving the goalposts over several conditions of the agreement and therefore have terminated their involvement.

The Gers and their rivals Celtic had both signed up for the friendly tournament in November this year, when the SPFL is on a break due to the Qatar World Cup.

Supporters of both sides, but particularly the Light Blues, did not take kindly to the announcement.

Their fans felt they should never be playing their fierce rivals in a glorified friendly, and and also that they were playing second fiddle to the Hoops for an event that had been billed as Ange Postecoglou's 'homecoming tour'.

They launched toilet rolls and tennis balls on the pitch at a recent match against Dundee in protest.

The statement on Rangers' website today reads: "Rangers can confirm the Club will not be participating in the Sydney Super Cup in November 2022.

"After it became clear the tournament organisers were unwilling to fulfil their commitments to Rangers, we have, with immediate effect, terminated the Club’s agreement with the organisers."
