Rangers urged to copy Chelsea transfer model and make 'big money' as Ibrox club 'set to consider' starlet offers

Rangers have been told to consider emulating Chelsea's youth pathway model after Coatbridge's Josh McPake latest loan spell away from Ibrox.

The winger has spent this season in England's Football League with League One side Morecambe and League Two club Tranmere Rovers.

He's netted once in that time and is currently on his fifth temporary stint following other stints at Dundee, Harrogate Town and Morton.

McPake has impressed in flashes but a Daily Record report has suggested that Rangers are 'set to consider' offers for him this summer.

It could see him leave permanently, or on another loan. The 20-year-old's deal expires in 2024.

Former Light Blues boss Alex McLeish has watched Premier League giants Chelsea bring players through their academy and then sell for profit.

He believes the Coatbridge ace could start something similar in Glasgow.

The former Scotland manager told Football Insider : “If they can generate some big money for these sorts of players they feel are not up to the required level, then why not?

"That’s good business. Chelsea have done it over a vast number of years.

“Chelsea have got these players in and later on down the line, they’ve secured big fees for them – and there are plenty of other clubs who have done the same.

“Why not Rangers? It really does take a lot to play at the Scottish Premiership level for Rangers. The demands it comes with are massive, and you can’t always get it right.

“There won’t always be players coming off the conveyor belt, but if there’s a method of raising big money for players who can’t make the grade – then it’s a no-brainer.”
