Rangers trolled by Paddy Power over dreadful Champions League return in embarrassing athlete fall comparison

Rangers have been trolled by bookmaker Paddy Power over their poor outings in the Champions League group stages - comparing Gio van Bronckhorst and his side to an athlete's hilarious fall in the Olympics.

Having qualified for the group stages for the first time in 12 years, Rangers fans were on cloud nine when they were pitted against European giants Napoli, Liverpool and Ajax in Group A of the competition. However, they were brought back down to earth with a 4-0 loss against the Dutch giants on the opening gameweek before Napoli ran riot with a 3-0 win at Ibrox. A 2-0 defeat a and comprehensive 7-1 loss to Liverpool meant things were looking bleak around Govan.

With four losses from four, a trip to Napoli had never looked as daunting - and their misery was compounded last night with a 3-0 loss against the Italians as they fell to yet another goal-shy defeat against Luciano Spalletti's men. And Paddy Power, in their typical fashion, have compared their catastrophic form to that of Jeffrey Julmis - who infamously crashed into the first hurdle when taking part in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Julmis, a Haitian sprinter, was seen bigging himself up and pointing to his watch - citing a 'my time is now' style message. With the gun firing, he makes a superb start - before teetering and crashing into the first hurdle, entering a backwards roll and most definitely falling to the back of the pack.

Quick-witted Paddy Power instantly drew the comparisons as Rangers' season could not have gone much worse on their time on the big stage - and you have to admit, it is fairly accurate. Rangers have a chance to silence their critics when Ajax visit Ibrox next week in the final game of the group stages, where a win by a five-goal margin will see Gio's men qualify for the Europa League knockouts.
