Rangers are in line to receive a significant transfer windfall should Ajax sell Calvin Bassey to an unnamed Premier League club interested in a summer swoop.
The defender - sold to the Eredivisie club in the summer for a record Rangers fee - is reportedly wanted by a top-flight English club despite criticism during his spell in the Netherlands.
Bassey, 23, has reportedly been targeted by a Premier League outfit - outwith the top five - with a £20m bid tabled.
Should Ajax sell Bassey for £20m then Rangers would be due another £2m for Bassey because of a 10 percent sell on fee in the sale to Ajax.
However, it's claimed Ajax could hold out for as much as £35m for the defender who is regularly deployed at left back and centre back.
Nigeria international Bassey has been forced to accept a limited role in recent months under Johnny Heitinga with Mexico defender Edson Alvarez commanding his regular central position in the back four.
Dutch pundit Mike Verweij revealed the transfer interest in Bassey on a podcast, stating: "To my amazement, a bid of 23 million euros has been received for Calvin Bassey.
"It's from the English Premier League. I don't know which club.
"And by the way, some people at Ajax think that he can be sold one day for 40 million Euros.
"I don't know which club it was, although it won't have been one in the top five.
"On the one hand, there's a lot of constructive criticism that has come in for Calvin Bassey this season.
"But also, if you look at him defensively, I can imagine there's interest from clubs.
"And for English clubs, he would be a good signing too because of the homegrown rules."
