Rangers transfer update as Turkish left-back 'eyed up' as potential Ibrox addition

Rangers could make a move for Besiktas left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, according to a report.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has developed through the youth ranks at the Turkish side and is already a full international with six senior caps to his name. He made his top team debut for the club in April 2019 and was part of the side that tasted league glory in the 2020-21 season. He has made 62 appearances to date scoring four goals and providing seven assists.

But he could be on the move to Ibrox with the Daily Mail reporting that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is considering a potential swoop for the full-back. They say the Istanbul club would demand in the excess of £4million to let him leave, with his contract entering its final year. Borna Barisic is the currently on the books and started the friendly win over West Ham last night and the club have already moved to bring Ben Davies in from Liverpool with Calvin Bassey poised to complete a mega money move to Ajax.

Former Celtic target Davies is believed to have cost an initial £3m with a further £1m in add-ons and he was presented to the Rangers fans at Ibrox alongside fellow new signing Malik Tillman after completing his move from Anfield.

He joins John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence Rabbi Matondo and Tillman in joining Van Bronckhorst's side this summer.

Davies has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Ibrox. He didn't make a senior appearance at Liverpool after his switch from Preston. He spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

Despite not featuring for his top team, Jurgen Klopp hailed Rangers' capture of the stopper and labelled the move as 'smart recruitment'

He said: "It’s a smart piece of recruitment from Giovanni van Bronckhorst."

"Perfect for all parties. He has himself an accomplished defender, who is entering his peak years and whose character is top drawer."
