Rangers transfer tip as club told to bolster striker department with one star 'not the answer'

Steven Thompson believes Rangers need to dip into the transfer market and bring another striker to the club.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has Antonio Colak, Fashion Sakala and Alfredo Morelos currently at his disposal, but the latter was left at home for the Champions League play-off trip to the Netherlands over various concerns including fitness levels and his attitude in the early part of the campaign.

The Colombian hitman was pictured in the gym just hours after his banishment while he shared a post on social media following Rangers' win as he roared: 'This is my team'. The message from his boss may well have landed but with his situation unclear, former LIght Blues star and BBC pundit Thompson believes another striker is needed. Colak arrived this summer and has quickly settled into life at Ibrox with five goals in six games. His strike last night earned his new club a Champions League group stage spot. He was replaced late on by Sakala, but Thompson says the Zambian is not the answer and it is an area of the park that needs strengthened in the final week of the window.

He told BBC Sportsound: "I think the Morelos situation is unclear. Will he get back to the levels we know he can be at? I do think they need to bring another striker to the club.

"Sakala came on for Colak who ran himself into the ground in the last 10 minutes. He's not the answer for me and they need an option in the forward areas.

"They'll have the money to buy someone they might not have had and the player who's coming has these Champions League games. For every single player it is the pinnacle and where you want to be. It's a huge carrot.

"Rangers at Ibrox, teams will find it difficult. They can't compete quality wise against some of these teams purely based on finances but it gives them an edge."
