Rangers transfer news as Xavi Simons snub raises PSG alarm and Bologna think beyond Skov Olsen

Mauricio Pochettino has been forced to explain why he snubbed talented youngsters Xavi Simons and Edouard Michut in PSG 's clash with Reims at the weekend.

Talented Dutchman Simons has made the headlines recently with his agent Mino Raiola demanding game-time if he is to extend his contract beyond the end of the season.

Alternatively it's thought a January loan move would keep him happy and Rangers are one of a host of clubs credited with an interest.

It appeared the runaway Ligue 1 leaders had stood up and taken notice as Simons, along with French talent Michut, had appeared in back-to-back league matches.

But despite eye-catching cameos against Lyon and Brest, the pair were unused substitutes against Reims.

PSG cruised to a 4-0 win, seemingly giving Pochettino the ideal opportunity to give his highly-rated youngsters some minutes.

But instead it was Ander Herrera and Julian Draxler who emerged from the bench with Simons nowhere to be seen.

That left the French media somewhat aghast but Pochettino defended the decision, suggesting there was work left to do despite being 4-0 up.

"To choose Herrera and Draxler rather than the youngsters? These are two changes we made with the result in our favour, but we had to act.

"We chose to take Marco Verratti off because he would have been suspended against Lille if he was yellow carded tonight, and also Kylian Mbappe to avoid any risk in the last 15 minutes. He was tired."

Meanwhile the Premiership leaders continue to be linked with Bologna's Andreas Skov Olsen as they battle it out with FC Copenhagen and Club Brugge.

The Serie A side are open to his departure with manager Sinisa Mihajlovic seething that the winger "no longer enjoys" playing for the club.

The latest sign Skov Olsen is on his way comes as Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Bologna have identified Udinese's Jens Stryger Larsen as a replacement.

The 30-year-old, a teammate of Skov Olsen's in the Denmark set-up, is out of contract in the summer and struggling for game-time at Udinese.

But they also say that Aberdeen 's Calvin Ramsay remains Bologna's priority after Record Sport reported the Dons are bracing for a club record £3.3m bid.
