Rangers are said to be back in the mix for Blackburn midfielder Joe Rothwell, along with a host of clubs from England's top two divisions.
The 27-year-old, who is eligible for Scotland, was linked back in January but opted to stay and run down his contract in Lancashire.
Back then it was claimed Rangers were eyeing up a summer free transfer for the energetic midfielder and it seems that could come to fruition now.
BBC's Ian Dennis says they are interested - although newly promoted Premier League duo Fulham and Bournemouth are also in the mix as are several clubs in the Championship.
Meanwhile Xavi Simons could be back on the agenda as Gio van Bronckhorst looks to add some youth to his midfield this summer.
The PSG starlet was also heavily linked in January but a deal didn't come off with the Ibrox side instead signing Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus.
Simons stayed in Paris rather than leave but he's yet to sign a new contract and as things stand he'll walk away on a free at the end of June.
Reports in France say PSG are keen to keep him with talks ongoing over a contract extension - but Fabrizio Romano claims three unnamed clubs have made approaches to lure him away.
Elsewhere the ever-reliable Allan McGregor is yet to give any assurances he'll be hanging around for another season and if he does go, a high quality replacement will need to be sourced to compete with Jon McLaughlin.
Bosnian stopper Vladan Kovacevic was linked earlier this week but recent reports have poured cold water over that.
He's likely to be on a list of potential targets but as things stand, Rangers will be hoping McGregor hangs around for one more year.
If he doesn't, Schalke stopper Martin Fraisl is out of contract and he's been strongly linked in the past.
One player who does look to be hanging around - at least for the immediate future - is Calvin Bassey.
There is substantial interest in him south of the border but Rangers are in no rush to sell and it's claimed they've put a non-negotiable £25m tag on his head.
For Bassey's part, he's thought to be interested in trying himself down south but is happy at Ibrox and won't force a move.
For the time being he's fully focused on international duty and is away with Nigeria until June 14 .
