Rangers transfer nears as winger closes in on switch to SPFL club after frustrating Ibrox spell

Glenn Middleton is set to end his association with Rangers on a permanent basis by signing for SPFL club Dundee United.

The Premiership side managed by Jack Ross are set to embark into Europa Conference third round qualifiers versus Dutch giants AZ Alkmaar next month. It's reported by the Daily Express that United are 'looking to close a deal before tomorrow’s Premiership opener with Kilmarnock.' Middleton joined Rangers from Norwich City and signed a five-year deal in 2018 after plenty of opportunities under previous manager Steven Gerrard.

While featuring sporadically in pre-season, he hasn't had many under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The last 18 months has been spent on loan in Perth at St Johnstone while the Scotland U21s international has also been temporarily with Hibs and Bradford City. An undisclosed fee will be paid to the Ibrox side for him and that fee could rise depending on how well he does in Tannadice over his stay there.

Meanwhile, captain James Tavernier can't wait to lead the team into another season when they embark upon another Premiership campaign with an opener versus Livingston on Saturday.

He said: "Really excited, had a very good first pre-season with the boss. The new signings have all added to the squad and we are in a great position for tomorrow.

"It's great to have the time to work on tactics during pre-season, it was hard during the season when such limited time with recovery and games."
