Rangers transfer latest as Giovanni van Bronckhorst told he'll need 'serious money' to sign 22-goal former Albion Rovers ace

Former Ross County manager Stuart Kettlewell reckons ex-Albion Rovers star Ross Stewart could head to Rangers - but only at a premium cost.

Stewart was Kettlewell's key man while boss in Dingwall and the striker departed in 2021 for England's League One and Sunderland.

He's scored an impressive 22 goals in 45 games this season and it's earned him a call-up to Steve Clarke's Scotland squad.

Transfer interest has appeared too and Rangers are reportedly looking at bringing Stewart back to the Premiership.

The 25-year-old was handed his SPFL chance by Albion Rovers in 2016 after time in junior football with Ardeer Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers, leaving a year later for St Mirren.

Now Kettlewell reckons he could be someone's who's flogged for millions.

He told the Daily Record: "Ross’ quality is far beyond what most people think. He has every attribute you’d want from a striker when you consider his hold-up play, pace and ability to finish with his head and feet.

“He’d really surprise a lot of people. Could he offer something to Rangers? 100 per cent

“Sunderland had Charlie Wyke banging in goals for fun last year but that allowed them to slowly bed in Ross. Now he’s running with the responsibility of being the main striker and he’s hit 22 goals already.

“But that’s likely to mean there’s many suitors down south as well as Rangers. He’s got another year left, so Sunderland will be looking for serious money.

“If they’re prepared to sell, we’re talking big numbers to sign a guy of his quality who has now proven himself. Four or £5 million? I don’t know but I’d imagine there are clubs down south prepared to pay that.”
