Rangers transfer exit explained as Jake Hastie departure branded necessary amid 'change of scenery' requirement

Hartlepool United manager Paul Hartley insists that Jake Hastie's departure from Rangers is something the winger needs to kickstart his career again.

The 23-year-old's time at Ibrox is now permanently over following multiple loan stints away from the Premiership side. His latest was over in Northern Ireland at Linfield while he has also spent time at Rotherham United, Motherwell and Partick Thistle.

Hastie joined Rangers in 2019 from Motherwell after a purple patch of form at Fir Park attracted Rangers to his services. But he hasn't been able to get near the first team and his days began to look numbered as loans proved frustrating.

He's now down south with Hartlepool assistant Gordon Young, who brought the winger to 'Well during his time as claret and amber academy chief. United manager and former Celtic and Hearts midfielder Paul Hartley said: "Delighted to get Jake in. Someone I’ve seen a lot of. He needs a change of scenery. Still a young lad.

"He needs a home and somewhere where someone can believe him. He’s got real pace. Very good in one on one situations and I know he will bring a lot of excitement."

Hastie added on his transfer to League Two: "This is an exciting move for me. I'm ready to push on and help the team the best way I can.

"I've seen a lot of videos and pictures of the fans and I can see they create an unbelievable atmosphere, I can't wait to get started."
