Rangers transfer exit debunked as Dundee United boss plays down link to Ibrox winger

Dundee United head coach Jack Ross has distanced himself from links to Rangers winger Glenn Middleton that emerged earlier this month.

The Arabs are preparing for their new Premiership season and Europa Conference League qualifiers. Ross wants more attacking options and Rangers academy product Middleton was mooted as a potential addition. He has spent the last 18 months on loan at fellow Tayside club St Johnstone with contrasting fortunes, helping them to a cup double in 2021 before avoiding relegation via a play-off in May. Ross has addressed the speculation surrounding the rumour.

It is not something he will get drawn in to but attacking players are being eyed. Ross told The Courier : "When you are vocal in saying you want to strengthen the squad you will get linked with players I spoke about wanting to get as many attacking options as I can. Other than that, there’s nothing more in it.”

Middleton has also spent time out on loan at Bradford City and Hibs, with his deal at Ibrox expiring next summer.

He was highly-rated under Steven Gerrard and signed a five-year deal under the now-Aston Villa boss, but regular minutes have been limited.

Rangers begin their Premiership season against Livingston on Saturday before their Champions League third qualifying round first leg in Belgium against Union St Gilloise.
