Rangers transfer bulletin as Xavi Simons opens up on 'big club' decision and Zak Lovelace edges closer to move

Rangers fans are eagerly anticipating an influx of new recruits at Ibrox as they look to wrestle the Premiership title back from Celtic next season. The Europa League finalists have added John Souttar, but fans are been to see more big names added.

One player that won't be arriving is reported Rangers target Xavi Simons after he agreed a deal with PSV. Simons leaves Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain after insisting he wanted regular game time at "a big club." The 19-year-old had been set to remain in France beyond this summer, but after contract negotiations rumbled on with the European heavyweights.

However, he performed a sensational U-turn ahead of his contract being announced by the French champions in favour of a move to Dutch football. Reports in France and Spain had claimed Rangers had contacted Simon's representatives and offered him the chance to be a 'cornerstone' of the new Ibrox era under Gio van Bronckhorst.

But the player has now stated that conversations with boss Ruud van Nistelrooy were the key factor in the move. Simons told the club website: “I have a very good feeling about it (the move). Of course PSV is a big club.

"The ambition expressed by the management has made me even more enthusiastic. I spoke to the trainer at an early stage and he told me a lot about the project the club has started.

"I know how he wants to play and how he sees my role in it. I'm at a point in my career where I need to start making minutes. That's possible here. I am ready and want to prove myself.”

Elsewhere, Rangers are looking to reinforce their frontline this summer. Antonio Colak appears to be top of the wishlist, but Ross Stewart is a name that won't go away.

The Scotland cap had a sensational season with Sunderland and played a key role in their promotion to the Championship. The Sunderland Echo report that the club are keen to agree a long-term extension with the club, and that there is an "eagerness to try and settle the speculation surrounding" Stewart.

In-demand teenager Zak Lovelace is also set to arrive at Ibrox, and can officially join the club on July 1 when his registration finishes at Millwall. English Premier League pair Leicester City and Brighton were just two of the top flight clubs linked with a move for him but Lovelace but the top prospect looks to have chosen the Scottish Premiership.

There has been an influx of young talent being brought into the youth academy in the last 48 hours. Bailey Rice is the latest to join after the 15-year-old left Motherwell.
